It seems that the irqbalance package is a Good Thing to be running on any
SMP machine.

I suspect you do need SMP on to make use of the two virtual CPUs.
Theres no specific kernel option for HT, but the SMP option is HT aware.
However it's a mixed blessing... Some things go faster, some go slower at
the moment.
