This is a call for volunteers to assist at the fix-up evening at the St. Albans Community Centre on:

We have the following requests for assistance so far:

Setting up X to give me resolution options other than 1024x768 (tried M10, the modem worked, ppp appeared to be corrupt so returned to m8.2)
Yuri:

Would like to watch DVDs. When I installed Mdk I didn't have disk 4 or any PLF stuff, which I suspect is the reason I don't have any DVD-playback codecs availabe. DVD options greyed out in every media playback app I have.

I never got my CD-writer to work properly. After a write, when it started fixating, it tended to freeze up the whole PC. I have fiddled with numerous settings, but suspect that I made things worse. The drive eventually died altogether: it locked up even when I tried to play a music CD or read a data CD. As a result, I took it out of the box. After that, the mysterious kernel lock-ups (? think that is what they were - dead PC with keyboard LEDs flashing) that I experienced every two/three weeks ceased as well. To me, it sounds like a serious bus conflict. I now have a brand new CD-writer but have not fitted it back into my box - the 27th might be a good date for it, if somebody can please help me to sort the bus out.

USB mouse. Also the following USB storage issues: How to ensure that all files have been closed on the USB drive before pulling it out (some sort of flush once/sec while it's plugged in)? User isn't allowed to unmount the drive - have to have root rights to do so! How to mount my USB flash-drive if it hasn't been the first thing on the bus. Can't mount Canon S45 or Sony P8 as usb-storage at all.
Christopher has also reported that he has two Gentoo users requiring assistance.
This is also another call for punters - the list of requests for assistance above might encourage you to step forward. We're not too scary, honest, despite recent postings. Anyone is welcome to simply show up on the night as well (BYO PC), but if you haven't emailed me first, you'll have to take your turn behind the above people.
