Okay...
Yes, getting there... Have been dialing with wvdial, until now. When wv
dialer was connected, it showed the connection as "active" in the
"Network Settings" pane. When the connection was terminated in wvdial,
it showed the connection as "deactivated" in "Network Settings" (where
the connections are listed, and where the activate/deactivate feature
is). If (with wvdial closed/inactive) the "activate" button is clicked,
nothing happens! :( Like, huh? So, on the "Properties" button... Says
"Modem Port" is "/dev/modem"...When the "Autodetect" button is clicked,
it comes up with an error message... "Could not autodetect modem
device"! The modem works, in wvdial... but not here (it won't even
autodetect it!). Here is the problem, with the GUI dialer not even
detecting the modem! Be nice if it worked as well as the one mentioned
below... and as well as this one does in the other operating system... :
$ At least it works in wvdial. Yes, so many bugs to work out... :$ This
is definitely a bug issue... :$ But should be able to work as well
(better) than the other operating system. So, why won't the GUI dialer
in "Network Settings" not work? That seems a more imortant matter right
now than the modem lights (although it would be good to see the active
connection). And then there is the rest of the hardware which is not yet
working to figure/configure... :$ That's the problem when one buys new
tech not "Design for Linux O/S"... ;) So, the thing is to get Linux
operating on the machines designed for the other operating system, as
this one was (and so many others are). Better Linux than the other
operating system... ;) Hmm... Yes, patience... :| Thanks for the
input/feedback, and help. Wishing well for all.
