I've got a niggle with my touchpad... It doesn't tap to click at all.

I've tried most of the suggestions in this thread, but no luck. The
hardware is a Dell L400 latitude, and sadly the touchpad clicks perfectly in
win2k and XP and 98.

Any suggestions?

The middle/scroll button is quite old. At least 5 years.

In general all TouchPads will behave like mice. You can use them with
standard PS/2 mouse drivers in Linux and Windows. If they have more
buttons than are found on a standard mouse the extra buttons may not work
without a specific driver for the specific TouchPad. Similarly, some
features or enhancements that you may have seen when using a TouchPad may
be implemented by the specific driver and therefore not available with a
general mouse driver.
