I think in a business, or other large site there might be too many devices to find a large enough name space to select from, but some ideas come to mind: London underground station names Greek/Roman gods Birds Flowers Otherwise, groups or clusters of machines can easily be named: Pinky & Perky Bill & Ben John, Paul, George and Ringo Shadrach, Mishak and Abednigo Fred & Ginger Or (the most boring) function, or location-based, names. One place I worked had building/floor/room number/machine number in a hard to pronounce but easily parsed string. Andy
