Started in the days when I was exploring the mysteries of how to connect 2 computers together. I've then been too lazy to change it. Only fairly recently have I realised that the names could be cool and in sets, so now that I've embarassed myself I just might change them. But then I will have to edit a bunch of scripts too, so maybe when I'm bored.

The one I'd likely use if not the elements (cause I do know the first 35 or so) is based on star names. There's a nice package called kstars for any casual stargazers out there, lets you identify the objects in the sky based on what you see right now from your location.

Cheers...

Roger,
You do get the prize for the least imaginative names.

Your naming system is superior to the "elementary" suggestion from
Gareth, - no need to remember that periodic table.

But you don't get the prize for least imaginative perhaps. My work machines are one, two, three, four... At least it's a big name space!
