I think that there would be more value in you asking him what you/we can
do to change his mind, or prove Linux worthy in his mind.  Receiving
random hate mails from the Open Source community is hardly going to sway
him.

So ask him to detail why he thinks it isn't a viable solution and
there'll be plenty of people on this list who would be willing to help
you write a case study to alter his perception.  Submit a written letter
to him asking, very politely but directly, why he feels as he does and
wait for his response.  If he chooses to ignore you, then why not bring
it to the attention of the BoT?

Andy might be right, he may have had a bad experience with Linux or been
poisoned with bad information. Remember, you're probably just a snotty
little student to him, so you have to do it really well and properly if
you're genuinely interested in promoting Linux withint your school.
