Hello, I would suggest the Rute book by Paul Sheer. It starts from basics and then pretty much covers everything (it's a big book). There is a copy in the Library, but it's out right now. You can download it from the internet (http://www.icon.co.za/~psheer/book/) for free (it's a big book, mind) or, of course, buy your own. The library (http://librarydata.christchurch.org.nz/) has quite a few Linux books in, although they can be hard to get hold of. "Linux for Dummies" is actually pretty good (despite its condescending title). Also, check on Amazon.com to see if someone else has put up a review of the book you are interested in. I share your frustration on buying a book and finding out it's not quite what you expected. HTH, Andy
