I still think dyndns or similar services offer the easiest solutions to
finding the ip address of a dynamically allocated ip address.

It does occur to me that brendan may want to be alerted that the box has
come up, so maybe satellite would be appropriate, if it can be easilty
incorporated into ipcop.

otherwise it is worth noting that the place to put scripts to run when
ppp goes up or down are /etc/ppp/ip-up and /etc/ppp/ip-down. 

also note that if you hack these scripts they _may_ get replaced on an
ipcop update. if you want to add something to the ip-up or ip-down
script I suggest writing it as a separate script and have it called from
ip-up or ip-down (ie only one line to add), then if ip-up and/or ip-down
get overwritten in an update, you can simply add the line back in and
the script to be called will not have changed.
