It may have been a spelling mistake in the search

reviewing the emails from after Andy visited and got error message from
knoppix, "motivated" reported (capitalisation added)

"It seems the problem is:
[drm:drm-init] #error# cannot initialize the agpPart module"

however the module name is agpGart. leading me to some period of
incorrect googling. 

Still i have not found a simple answer yet, but disabling drm would seem
to be a first option, or using a framebuffer.
