As said numerous times before, on SuSE, ignore that kppp even exists.
There's a much better replacement for it called kinternet (and yast,
smpppd, wvdial, but that's not user-visible). kppp isn't installed by
default, why did you install it?

We've been through this recently, though not on 9.2. Look at the logfile
by right-clicking on the grey plug in the panel (the smaller one, the
fatter one is for power management), and select "view log". What's the
error?

It seems to have been on 9.1, when using a Lucent modem. Until the real
problem is pinned down, the workaround there seems to be to uninstall
the ltmodem driver and to reinstall it. You must reboot after upgrading
the kernel. What modem do you have?

It's also possible that the providers-NZ.conf file I compiled has wrong
settings for some ISPs (I can't test them all). If you're using it and
there's a problem with it, please let me know. If you're not using it,
you should find it handy. Copy
http://volker.dnsalias.net/linux/tech/providers-NZ.conf to
/usr/share/providers/NZ.conf before configuring your modem in yast.
Sorry, can't help with the chicken+egg problem, but there's a copy on
every Updates-CD I burn.
