Thanks for the feedback. I spoke to Ascot and then Visual Tech, both said <$50 to assess/quote, and by my description of the problem less than $100 to fix.
Now we await a wet day for someone to bring a car to work, so we can cart the tube off (probably to Ascot because of CLUG links).
