The surest way to irritate them was to convince them you had a secret. ie. Standard POTS maybe be zero security, but encryption is a red flag to really bad bulls bearing "rubber hose decryption mechanisms".
I note that I'm a free man in NZ because, I have, from a really nasty police force that murdered thousands, a piece of paper that says I'm nice.
