The home automation industry is full of products which facilitate this kind of thing. But like everything in this industry nothing is cheap and the quality of the interfaces/baulns can make a big difference. By my experiance I can suggest that _without_ the appropriate baluns the results are quite disapointing. Search for products by 'Speakercraft', 'Xantech', AMX etc.

They are good rescue solution where use of existing cables is mandated, but when you have the option nothing matches a good piece of coax - for price or performance.

You can extend the concept by considering each wire as 4 pairs of wire, or 8
individual wires, and use them for any purpose you choose.

Well that begs the question - can audio and video be transmitted via the Cat5e and RJ45?

Or is there a better way?

We will probably have a "multimedia PC" adjacent to our home entertainment
centre and I was considering running audio and video cables from my PC
station to the entertainment centre also.

Any better suggestions?
