Hi Robert,

I've got a combined 3com net/modem card, where the dongle for the net is broken. No problem with the modem side though.

Free to a good home.

Halo,

Does anybody know where I can get a USB-modem that works with SuSE 9.2
64-bit? I have only a laptop without serial ports and a modem that doesn't
work with linux.

First, are you certain that the existing internal modem is not functional under Linux?
What sort of modem is it?

It is a SmartLink modem (www.smlink.com). There is a driver for my modem, but when I try to compile it gcc says that there are not satisfied references or something like that. The driver which comes with my distribution doesn't work either. It contains a makefile, but that copies only a file and doesn't compile anything.

You can d/l the file and run it to discover the details:-

If your 'puter has a slot, you might well get on better using a PCMCIA modem

Dick Smith have suitable ones - XH1145 is one of several.

They also have a small external USB modem - XH1147
Goodness only knows if it works under linux.

I will try Dick Smith. I will ask them if I can try the modem and return it if it doesn't work. I have one PCMCIA II slot. But I don't know if USB or PCMCIA works better. I would prefer USB because the position of the slot is not very good for a modem.
