Hi
I have been labouring long and hard to get X system working on my practice box (486+Tiny).
I made a lot of progress and got all the *.tar.gz files decompressed and extracted into their appropriate directories. I followed readme.tinyX to the letter and did /locate /to ensure that all required files were in place. I just had 1 thing left to do, edit the $PATH variable to provide a path to the/ /usr/vga/ directory so that the system could execute startx and find XF86_VGA16 located in that directory. This was done by using vi to edit the file / /etc/profile / :-)
Unfortunately, a major blunder in editing this file has left the system unable to execute lots of basic commands like /locate, update, vi, more, less/ and no doubt lots of others. I am unable to re-edit the $PATH variable as vi will not load, neither will other editors. :-|
However the system will execute commands like /echo, ls, cd, shutdown /and so on. Is the system now past repair and will a complete re-install of the OS be necessary? If so, it just shows how easily a determined newbie can mess up a system!
Cheers - Woodsey :-(

In a command box, type in...

PATH=:$PATH:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin

and you should be right...
