It was sold to Melbourne IT some years back, who engaged in some fake invoice scam (monopoly practices) which got them in trouble. Did they stop then? Nope.
Melbourne IT are also the registrar responsible for "the loophole" that took panix.com off the air last weekend. Of course, the domain panix.com was registered, held and locked at a US registrar who has absolutely no connection with Menbourne IT. Go figure.
I've used DiscountDomains.co.nz happily. My initial choice of them was the fact that they would action a registration and be paid by cheque (although there's a couple of dollars surcharge). This can be important for a small business that hasn't bothered to get a credit card.
