Sounds like a reinstall with Ubuntu is simplest. Would this present any problems Douglas?
argh! Can we ever unbrainwash the M$ mindset? (:
Perhaps.
But not when the user (presumably) wants to stick with Debian, get Gnome 2.8 running (+ the latest hotplug &/or whatever), and may have borked updating. Why not change the lot at once?
The answer I was looking for was /home or whatever data to have to reinstate. Couldn't think of any other reason why not update all.
[Yes, "nuke it" I'd say.]
Oh, the learning curve.. on current tools is best (_not_ automount, said Michael).
Replacing that would be quite involved (possible?), and have to be done precisely.
I don't know enough about Debian though, obviously. Not that I take insult, or am unkeen to learn. ;-)
We'll see how this one turns out.
Enjoy the heat,
Rik
