Thanks for doing this Nick,

Just a reminder of the meeting tomorrow 24 January 2004 at 7.30 pm at
the Cashmere Club.[1]

There will be a presentation by a German visitor Ruediger Berlich who
will talk on Grid Computing Research & inside 'SuSE Linux'.

What I've found out this evening is that our guest was the person who produced all the English language support for SuSE. That's a resounding "thankyou very much" he is owed. He was SuSE support director in the US & the UK.

Please support this meeting as we are not often able to arrange talks by
overseas visitors of this calibre.[2]

There is a bar at the Club, so you are able to buy a drink or presumably
a coffee. I am not sure how this affects under 18 year olds - perhaps
whoever made the booking (Rik?) could clarify. We will be in a separate
room and I suspect that as long as the younger ones pretend to be with a
parent they should be ok.

Sounds about right; I can report on any age restriction tomorrow. We have the Heathcote Room, separate from the lounge & bar. It's medium-sized. A microphone & speaker system will be used, as Ruediger is preserving his voice having caught a chill while in Fiordland. He's fine though; same talk will be given at Sydney LUG Friday.

Tea & coffee are provided free.

As usual there is a gold coin donation (actually Rik has pointed out
that it is now a $2.00 donation following on from the general meeting we
held last year)

[1] according to the phone book the Cashmere Club is at 88 Hunter Tce,
Cashmere, but the easiest way is to say its on Colombo Street, Cashmere
end, ie somewhere on this map:

Correct..

http://www.ccc.govt.nz/maps/Wises/map18/MAP18.asp

- Just over the Heathcote River / Waimea Terrace, and past the new South Chch Library / CCC building (also on the left), heading south.
There's a big sign & entrance you cannot miss.

(Some may remember a previous meeting there when the Sydenham Community
Centre was double booked.)

[2] I assume this is the chap:

Also correct.

Cheers,
Rik
