There has been a Linux version of the Duden dictionary some years ago. Might be that it was only in German and only for SuSE but at least they tried it. I personally think that the combination wikipedia/google is much better than any normal encyclopedia. Especially the mathematical and scientific sections on wikipedia are superb.

Wow, dictionaries and an encyclopedia now available for Linux too.
That's not bad for a company which in the past has been brainwashed
firmly in the billy-way.

Enter "linux" in the search box. The search is per cetagory, selecting
"Dudenverlag" under "Marken" and searching for Linux again finds more
titles.
