Ian Foster is receiving an honorary doctorate at this years graduation So will be in ChCh in mid-April. I am not sure if he will be giving a seminar on his visit -- not all honorary doctorates do give them (Some do) Hopefully this link is available..... http://www.comsdev.canterbury.ac.nz/news/2005/050127a.shtml

Dear Rik, here is a small detail I have come across a few days ago. Feel free to share this with CLUG, if you want.
Ian Foster, one of the two "fathers" of Grid Computing (I had shown a picture of him during my presentation) was born in Wellington - I didn't know this during my presentation at CLUG. He then studied at Canterbury University in Christchurch, before going to the US.
Have fun, Ruediger Berlich
Thanks Ruediger, I've done just that.
Encouraging this esteemed gentleman ( http://www-fp.mcs.anl.gov/~foster/ ) to revisit his academic home would be a real coup.
Hopefully it might coincide with your next visit here too.
Kind regards,
Rik
