Laplink cables are a relic of the 80s. May I suggest you do yourself a favour and pack them up in the city-council-provided black plastic bags for storage? Linux has never really supported parallel-port networking (AFAIK), simply because there were much better alternatives around. > Can I connect the computers and, at the command prompt > or otherwise, send files from one to the other? Yes, trivial: use ethernet. Cards $15 a piece, free on new mobos, cables about $3. > I have one printer, on one computer's parallel port. Can I, by means of > one of those old parallel switches Yes. > or otherwise, use the printer from > either computer? Yes, use your ethernet.
