I notices this evening in the nz.comp ng that there was a posting that's
mirroring what I'm playing around with in my spare time (:
It's my thinking that if it were possible to directly replace an office
workstation running XP with an Ubuntu one, without losing any of the
functionality, then there would be a lot omileage ( kn'age? ) in this.
Now, I expect there's a number of you reaching for your keyboards to
hotly reply that this can be done immediately with available tools.
And, to a certain extent, I agree. The thing that isn't available
off-the-shelf is the ability for said workstation to operate as a
workstation in a M$ active directory domain, just like XP would. Now all
of the tools are available - kerberos, openldap, etc, and there are a
few guides around to aid you, but I've yet to see a working example.
Anyone else interested in attempting to get a live distro that'll boot
off a CD and do all of this???
