The drum would probably be an economic k.o. (black streaks printed in paper moving direction). Last year I was offered a LJ4 (no net though) with postscript module for free, but it needed a new drum - $500, and no guarantee it was the only faulty bit, so I said "thanks but" and declined. New lasers are less than that, though unfortunately 1200dpi are still 4 digits. Still heaps cheaper than inkjets though - my one costs $1.50 just to turn it on. I can print photos though... (don't bother mentioning you can print photos with whatever laser, it sucks).
