There's a chance that some X server rpm is not installed, especially if
you initially installed a "system without X" or something like that.
This will be some packages in the xorg-x11-* range.

Although you could create the missing symlink manually, I suspect this
is just a symptom of some othe rproblem (eg X11 server package not
installed).

Sax2 is SuSE's X configuration tool, it'll create an X11 config file and
make any other necessary arrangements, you can start it from the command
line with sax2, or from yast with hardware->display or something like
that. If you start it from yast, there's no indication that you have
started sax2 instead of one of the yast2 modules (presumably to give you
an integrated experience).
