Hi, I bought a ATI Radeon 9600 card for my AMD64. Suse 9.2 installed ok, and generated a nice 1600x1200 display, without hardware acceleration. There was some anxt, as I found that my radeon card did not do hardware acceleration for my 64 bit. Further, I found that suse is X.org - and not xfree86. The radeon support was specifically xfree86.
I consulted several colleagues etc. The consensus was that nvidia has a better name for support under linux. So I bought a nvidia card. Suse detected it, and installed something that worked. then online update, and it has been sweet eversince (with hardware acceleration). Given my experience, and the above mentioned advice, I think it is a case of your milage varying. Now, if you want the above card, contact me off list...
