A few people expressed interest in coming along to Robert's Rooomy Garage [1] to have gentoo installed.[2]

There may be others interested?
Those that do want to come, please post the architecture of your machine, ie what sort of processor. Some basic specs (Ram, spare HD space, cpu speed) would be good too as I don't want to have 10 pentium one's turn up on the day :) [3]

yes please do count me in for this (health permitting)
since i haven't as yet done a thing with December_2003's "new box" this is its moment - some 'few' months late - and mine too(as in wanting to give gentoo a decent crack) so i'll be dusting off those cartons, unpacking, assembling etc. this weekend.
and yes, i'm sorry nick but i did end up not using those gentoo cds that you so kindly provided all those months ago - disgaceful i know.
only excuse being that i rapidly became rather fond of this "temporary_just_for_a_quick_look_before_i_switch_to_gentoo" ubuntu install i did way back then.
which quickly transformed into a hybrid ubuntu/debian-woody/debian-testing machine which hasn't (pre goofups excepted) given me any problems whatsoever.
quite pleasing really given that i hit upon more than a few non-distro developer provided deb repositories (sic)...
and it is here that i can see one major plus plus good thing vis gentoo over the current setup - given that most of the non-distro specific projects i'm following are beginning to provide "emerge versions" (for want of a better way of putting it) life will be just that little bit simpler/easier when it comes to maintaining repository lists - ie there will be only the one, versus the current 52.
i _think_ i've got that right?
so anyway, the box-in-question's specs are: athlon xp2500+ asrock k7vm4 km400 mobo ## whatever all that means 80GB hdd ## virgin all for gentoo 512MB ram onboard 10/100 network 56K dialup modem internal ## yet to buy this see ps below ati radeon 9200 64MB ram ##i know i know
looking forward to a weekend early in april
cheers + thanks

ps: i'm tempted to bring along this current box, not for gentooisation, but so i can get the networking setup on the day.
would that be cool?
or does a two box network with dialup internet need an ipcop box as well?
