fdisk gives this when I ask for the partition table  (working from Knoppix of 
course): 
Device    Boot  Start End  Blocks   ID  System 
/dev/hda1  *     1    9    72261     0  Empty 
[...] 
/dev/hda5        1    9    72229    83  Linux 
 
I'd originally set /dev/hda1 as boot, and Mandrake decided to call 
it /dev/hda5.  I was not impressed.
