Having coded in C, Pascal and other languages I still find myself coming back
to basic type languages for most quick and dirty jobs. It is a pity really that
in about 5 years time it will probably be gone as M$ are pushing the
Java^h^h^h^h c# language more and moe.

The Gnu-answer to .NET: Mono (http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page)
It looks quite interesting and I will install it after the Gentoo-installfest (if my computer is still running). At the moment I can't because it requires a newer Gnome than I have under SuSE 9.2.

I don't think that Java will vanish within 5 years. Firstly it is supported by IBM and Sun and secondly as we just have seen many people still use basic.
