No, space is a problem, as it's a shuttle. even so, you're correct...

Alternatively, when you install your Linux, make a smallish (20-50MB)
/dev/hda1 for Redmond-DOS, and install an old version of said on that
partition. Try freedos if you want to risk it.
Your really limiting factor is the fact that most vendors only
distribute their firmware in .exe files, and they can't be extracted by
unzip[1], and they can't be extracted under MS-DOS either because some
dork decided you have to click ok to their obnoxious license.
