Jim Cheetham will also be presenting a talk on the use of "regular expressions". Regular expressions are clever search strings used by command-line tools like grep, scripting languages like awk and perl, and editors like vim and emacs. It's definitely worth knowing the basics, and the tricks that you can perform.
Gosh, I'd better start thinking about what to cover, hadn't I? :-)

Otherwise, I was going to aim mostly at the beginners end, with shell globs, grep and egrep, then via pcre to expect - i.e. mostly the tools that use regexps, not necessarily the convoluted mega-regexps that are sometimes seen :-) and depend on greediness and so on ...
