100% success rate for the day

Well it seems that all but one punter went away with a working Gentoo box
with KDE (except Isaac who seems to know what he is doing anyway)

Everybody got working modems?
If not we could probably do something on Tuesday evening.
Please make mention in this thread.

I'm hoping that will be ok - pcmcia & 'socket-watching' seem compiled in ok. Of course wvdial on Debian hasn't successfully connected since Thursday :-/ .., but there is always Ubuntu to fall back on :-). Ubu's Network Settings gui seems to work better on its older Gnome (2.8.?), than it does on Sarg's 2.8.3. It was this gui that borked the network/ interfaces entries on which it runs, rather than wvdial that the gui app calls upon on Debian.. The onboard 'smartlink' modem is the longer-term challenge.

This page looks quite helpful:
http://packages.debian.org/testing/misc/sl-modem-daemon

There is other Gentoo assistance I might ask though please. I have an error or two starting xdm, with the ATI driver, so all I get is the black X. Shouldn't be too serious, as we had KDE running yesterday. But this was the first reboot. Looking forward to some more tips.

urry and wine was good too. (IMHO)

Indeed, Many thanks are due to our host.

A most cool day of work. Thanks guys.
