Thanks for the help. The problem and resolution looked like this.... I had set it up as group=sybiz, set the permissions on the file structure and let it loose. It would run well until the indexing happened. The indexer turned out to be the problem. It seemed to thing that even though it was logged in as user Bob, as soon as it created a temp file (as bob), no matter what group it belonged too it changed the permissions to allow bob to be the only person to have access (rwx- - - - - -, wiped out the group and then packed a sad because a user (bob) had some files open that it wanted to use (ie the file it just created). It is a Sybiz ...eeerrrr ... feature ;-} Took Daniels advice, set Force User = abauser, Force Group = sybiz chmoded (0770) and chownd(abauser:sybiz) the file structure yet again and set it running. It now works. Have also forced permissions in samba to be the same as above. > create mode = 0770 , directory mode = 0770. Unfortunately it means all files are now shown as being used by the same user and group so the file ownership no longer changes to reflect the user who created or modified it as it should. That is a problem for another day. All files also need the execute permissions turned on for the indexer as well. Thanks for the help and reminding me about the force command.
