Not necessarily. using firefox is a no brainer, its usually installed as part of your distro these days, and on win its a pointy clicky installer. People who have firefox may still expect to just point and click at mailto: links, and be lost if it doesn't work. And half the damn time you end up copying the email address full of funny quoted characters and the whole mailto: bit as well.
