Ooops!
The easiest fix will be to run
./MAKEDEV scsi
In the /dev/ directory, as root
This script makes device nodes.
less MAKEDEV
for more info
Or you could use mknod but thats all MAKEDEV does for you.
However if you get a message like
.udevdb presence implies active udev. Aborting MAKEDEV invocation.
Or
.devfsd presence implies active devfs. Aborting MAKEDEV invocation.
Then you have one of those dev management utils which could be causing more
problems.
Udev is supposed to work nicely, whereas devfs is deprecated.

Subject: Deleted /dev/sda1
Hello,
I have an external HD which I use for backup. It is connected over USB 2.0
and usually but not always (only when it is the first USB-mass-storage
device) shows up as /dev/sda. Now I have had some problems as it did not
show up in usbview anymore and I could also not mount it. After some time I
realized that /dev/sda1 did not exist anymore. "ls /dev/sda1" gives "No such
file or directory". I have been playing around with hotplug lately and I
sometimes mix up mv and rm. I think it is possible that I deleted it. How
can I create a new /dev/sda1?
Happy Hacking,
