Go buy a basic book from Whitcoulls, Borders or the like. Or read the
rute book as others have suggested.

I bought a good book when I started, never looked back.

And do NOT change the ownership and permissions on your /var/www/html
like others have suggested. Your distro maker has thought carefully
about what permissions should exist there, stick with it and learn the
correct way to write to a directory, and what ownership and permissions
files in that folder should have. The commands you are likely to need
are cp (copy) , mv (move), su (superuser or change user), sudo (change
user for the next command), ls -l (list a directory with full details).
