Pretty much everyone running a mailing list on a new setup uses mailman, and that's a lot. Sourceforge runs on mailman and is under constant attack. The legacy of problematic C/C++ apps seems to have been largely thrown overboard now, though yes, these languages are diabolical for easy safe programming practices.
