Hi all (especially the keen gentoo'ers)
well I took the plunge and downloaded the gentoo x86_64 manual (as per Chris
Sawtells advice - printed the whole lot)
I've downloaded the "install-amd64-universal-2005.0-r1.iso", burnt the iso and
had a bit of a go....I can see why the CLUG has "gentoo install fests" now!
I must admit all the live, point and click distros (like SimplyMEPIS, Ubuntu
etc.) have made me into a bit of a softy
Anyway after a bit of mucking around/manual reading...re-reading/googling etc.
I've got a semi-working stage 3 installation based around "emerge genkernel"
A couple of questions:
1. I can't for the life of me get it to recognise my network (eth0) card at
boot although the install CD does when I boot it. I assume there is a module
I need to load (or did I miss something when I compiled the kernel?)...if
it's a module...which one is it?
The output from lshw is attached
2. I can't seem to select/input any mirrors when I do:
# mirrorselect -i -o >> /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf
I assume this is because I'm using the stage 3 install not stage 1?
If there are any gentoo install-fests/ mini installs or fix up nights comming
up, please put my name down
