I've always had a good run with LiteOn drives, had three and they are all still going well. Easy to reset to RPC-1 too if you need that. The LiteOn SOHW-1673S[1] is listed on Pricespy at $90, right next to the LG. I have no personal experience with LG but I remember some time back that (Mandrake 9.2 + LG CD-ROM = Paperweight)[2].
