This is a common problem, and a bit chip dependent. What modules are
loaded? There is a snd-bttv or something that I  believe you may need.

In other situations there is a need to have a cable going from your
capture card to the sound card? (although the fact that it works in
windows may rule that out)

these steps basically:

emerge mythtv
rc-update add mythbackend default
/etc/init.d/mythbackend start
mythsetup
mythfrontend
