Are there any good GUI tape backup programs around?
I fear that that is an oxymoron, so no.

Amanda (http://www.amanda.org) is a very good system. I *think* it's
still free for local server use.
It used to be extremely good, then it got all stupid and started
charging, and also refusing to acknowledge many tape drives ( real
SCSI ones like yours are ok, but the ones that pretended to be hard
drives weren't ).

Sorry, brain in neutral. I meant arkeia, not amanda ( good product, but
not gui based ). See www.arkeia.com for detail. Sad to say, it looks
like even the single stand-alone linux version is now no longer free...
ther're charging on volume of data saved now... unless the following
paragraph applies to you:
<quote>
In addition, a free version of Arkeia Server Backup is available for
protecting less than 50 gigabytes.
