[Sorry about the pun.]

I was having a bit of a problem with sound (Intel 82801 (ICH5) AC'97)
under FC4 (kernel 2.6.12). The sample sound played by
system-config-soundcard was perfect, but anything that went through esd
[1] sounded broken and choppy. However, thanks to a but of googling I
found that the problem is a setting that Fedora fails to put into place
for esd. If this sounds like you, add "-r 48000" to the end of the
"spawn_options" line in "/etc/esd.conf". This changes the sample rate to
something that the sound-hardware can handle.

[1] I am not blaming ESD, Fedora, or the hardware: it was a combination
of issues that did not get caught; the first sound problem I can recall
having!
