Hi, I would like to bring my Gentoo 2005.0 system along to the users workshop tonight. I am having some trouble with KDE. (since last month when I attempted to upgrade to KDE 3.4) The problem is with KDM there is no logon screen when it starts up and goes straight into KDE. It was o.k. when I was half way between installing KDE 3.4 from 3.3 and had both versions installed, after removing KDE 3.3 the logon disappeared and now starts straight into KDE I have switched to GDM and have a logon screen back but would like to find what has gone wrong. I have spent quite a lot of time on google reading gentoo wiki etc but nothing seems to correspond to my problem. I have a feeling I have missed emerging an important package.
Gentoo on the whole is running very well and I am happy with the way the computer runs gentoo. I have a few other smaller problems which I am not getting too worried about but if any body has any ideas. ALSA only seems to work with kernel 2.6.11-r6 (as modules) I have tried upgrading to 2.6.11-r11 and 2.6.12-r6 and neither kernel versions will work with the new modules there are a raft of errors on bootup about unknown symbols. Thanks Simon Knight P.S. I have built a basic LIRC serial transmitter and receiver if any one is interested I have it receiving but not transmitting, I think its software rather than hardware problem thou. I will bring it along. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard Tindall" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, August 04, 2005 12:11 PM Subject: Reminder: GNU/Linux Users workshop 4/8/5 > GNU/Linux Users does Free Software advocacy for the Canterbury/ /LUG. > > Tonight's workshop format is the same as last month: Linux Beginners Q&A > + installs.
