buy a brand new machine.

I do note on this topic that there are relatively few good games for kids 
on linux. There is a rich range of semi-good and seriously addictive games 
on windows.

Yes, I know, you will say that I should go and write some kids games and
redress the balance somewhat. But I am trying to do that elsewhere..
