I haven't followed this thread really, but basically anyone wanting to upgrade a major part of a distro (like KDE) to a newer version which was made for a different version of the same distro, or horror, a different distro will, by the end of a quite a few days later, have learned a lot about why distributors have such a big workload making sure that all parts of your favourite Linux system fit together nicely. Each to their own definition of "fun".
