Actually it was named for the original machine, which was a compaq proliant 6500. It was going to be a quad CPU, hence a four legged name, and being so bloody massive it was a choice between horse, elephant, or dinosaur.
Theres a question - at what point does a machine need a new hostname? At a total change of hardware? Or a change of task?
