Actually a quick google shows that it does run X! This pdf was about 4th on the list when searching "acorn nc x server"
http://swexpert.com/R/WS2.JUL.98.pdf Of course booting arm linux over the net might also work, if it runs on this particular hardware. netbsd works on a _very_ wide range of hardware. There are references to acorn26 and acorn32 (the NC seems to be an acorn32) on the netbsd site, including this: http://www.netbsd.org/Ports/acorn32/faq.html#booting_an_nc and this: Supported Computer Systems o These are systems made by various computer manufacturers for which support as a whole exists. * Acorn Risc PC 600, Risc PC 700 * Acorn StrongARM Risc PC, J233 * Castle Technology RiscPC 233T * Castle Technology Kinetic RiscPC * Acorn A7000, A7000+ * Castle Technology A7000+ * Acorn Network Computer * ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Thats on http://www.netbsd.org/Ports/acorn32/ Feasible scanario is therefore: Linux server serving tftp and dhcp to serve netbsd kernels, nfs for netbsd binaries, and native linux X apps (which display on the NC's). There is info in our own wiki on running netbsd on ncd exploras. which are powerPC 403 driven. There is info on crosscompiling for ppc on x86, no doubt the principle is the same for cross compiling for arm on x86.
