I agree with what you say, and the support software looks good from your description. However, please condition your recommendation to "office printers". These typically print black text and the odd bit of colour text, and also may have other non-printing-related add-ons like card readers. Although these printers can also print a recognisable photo, they fall short of the mark. One would want a good photo printer for good-quality and long-lasting prints (neither is a requirement for the office). The choice there is between Epson and Canon. Go for Epson, Canon are proprietary bastards whereas Epson at least talks to developers, though their support isn't nearly as good as HP's.
