Computing wise it was the best money I ever invested...well worth the nominal charge....and introduced me to other like-minded people within CH.
The weekend venue allowed plenty of time to get most of the basic requirements set up on my own PC .....as well as listen in on others there... gleaning as much information as possible. I agree very much with the comments made by Douglas regarding the need for a Configfest oriented event rather than simply an Installation oriented one. Installation of distros is much easier than when I first tried back in 2004. Distros now also have significantly better ability to recognise installed hardware. Configuration problems (their solution), should they arise however are not that readily obvious to a MS user looking to move to Linux...I can still recall trying to get my head round all the new and very different file name / structure. My previous posts (2004) have also highlighted the fact that after the initial installfest I found myself pretty much at a loss due to configuration issues...and questioning the function of CLUG / the installfest. Also, whilst I do still spend significant time researching the subject trying to learn more I always find it much more enjoyable (speed / social interaction) learning in the company of others.
