To get to an useable system with a graphical interface using the installation instructions from the gentoo.org for 2005.1, that *really is* how long it took. I couldn't believe it was still compiling when I got in to work the next morning.
I'm certain that what you're saying is correct, but if the documentation is telling me the wrong thing, then it's telling everyone else as well. And if the docs are wrong, then it's a pretty uphill struggle to get gentoo installed, and at this point the quality of the final product becomes irrelevant.
